  The major wine producing regions in France include:

Alsace
Alsace produces some of the world's most noted dry rieslings and is the only région in France to produce mostly varietal wines identified by the names of the grapes used

Bordeaux
Bordeaux produces large quantities of everyday wine as well as expensive wines. Although the reputation of Bordeaux is based on its few prestigious red wines and the sweet white wines from Sauternes, Bordeaux also produces large quantities of ordinary table wines, including white wines, rosé wines, and a sparkling wine, called Crémant de Bordeaux.

Burgundy
Red Burgundy wines are usually made with the Pinot Noir grape, and white Burgundy wines are usually made with Chardonnay grapes

Champagne
The province where champagne is produced. The main two grapes used are the Chardonnay and the Pinot Noir, and Champagne can be made from each separately or both together

Côtes du Rhône
Red and rosé wines are made from Grenache Noir, Syrah, Cinsaut, Carignan, Counoise and Mourvèdre grapes, white wines from Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, and Bourboulenc.

The Loire Valley produces high quality wines in all styles.
